MY HAPPY PLACE

25 Dec 1953 - This was my first Christmas. I was 4 months and my brother, Greg was 3-1/2 years. We lived in Amarillo Texas on Lipscomb Street with our parents, Bob and JoAnn Sessler. Until I was eleven, we would always travel to our grandparents’ home in Hugoton, Kansas to spend Christmas with all of our extended family. We had lots of cousins who lived in Hugoton, and many of them still do. Growing up in my parents’ home there was always happiness, security, peace, joy, and lots of love.  It was my happy place.

TWAS A NIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS . . .

'Twas a night after Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was sleeping especially the mouse.

It all started off with a Skype with Miss Cora
She kept the old folks laughing - 'twas not a bore(uh)

And high on his perch Grimley watched for the mouse
who had free run in that bedazzled house.

As we all settled in to watch Downton Abby's brightest
We had to agree that this night was the delight(est)!!

SNOW ADVENTURE 2015

The weather app said it would snow in Show Low from Wednesday night till Thursday at noon. I stayed up to welcome in the New Year and finally went to bed at 2am.

I awoke to a lovely blanket of snow. And it continued to snow until Saturday morning!! My water pipes were frozen Wednesday morning so I had to ration drinking water to be able to keep the toilet flushed.

It was a fun adventure in spite of a little inconvenience and I can't wait for it to snow again!!

OPERATION: RESCUE NANA

I was stranded after a big storm dumped a foot of snow on my little trailer in Show Low. On the fourth day, Greg, Garrett, Amy and the kids drove up to give me a hand. I love the white stuff but not the frozen water pipes!

BE PREPARED!!

My weather app said it would snow Wednesday-Thursday with the sun coming out at noon. Plenty of time get snow photos, the roads to clear, and to be back home Friday afternoon.

The water pipes froze Tuesday night. I started using bottled water to "flush" the toilet.

Almost out of water Friday morning. Melted a bowl of snow - yield 1/4 cup. Still snowing.

Need to buy jugs of water and snow shovel. Dug out with a plastic cutting board. Backed out, made it to the corner (30 feet) and then saw this hill. Umm. NO WAY!! Turned around and went back. But I did find two more bottles of water in the car!!

Now that's being prepared!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!!

Snow was forecast for Wednesday, Dec 31st and Thursday, Jan 1st so I drove to ShowLow on Tuesday. I couldn't sleep Tuesday night as I kept peeking out the window for signs of flurries. Sure enough, late New Years Eve, it began to snow!! HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!!

FINALLY SNOW!!

12.18.2014 - Today was great because it finally snowed!!

I have been wishing for snow at the RV in Show Low for a couple of months. The weatherman forecasted snow for Wednesday and Thursday so I drove up on Monday.

Tuesday night I was so excited that I didn't sleep but kept a hopeful lookout for any sign of flurries. The weather app on my phone teased all day, changing its predictions hourly. No snow.

After a fitful rest Wednesday night, I  awoke to a slight dusting of snow like powdered sugar on a dark chocolate cake. This wasn't what I had in mind!! But now it's starting to pick up a bit and even though there won't be enough to build a snowman, at least I can stay inside with a mug of hot chocolate and enjoy the peaceful sight of falling snow.

KYLE'S FIRST CHRISTMAS

Kyle, 10 months, looked very dapper in his Santa hat on Christmas Day 2013! I adore this photo of this adorable little grandson of mine on his very first Christmas.

White Christmas

I took a little "What's Your Christmas Anthem" quiz on Facebook and here is the result:

"A nostalgic and serene dreamer, your Christmas Anthem is "White Christmas" by the incomparable Bing Crosby! For you, this time of year brings a calmness and peaceful serenity, a winter wonderland of beautiful white scenery. The chill in the air and the glow of Christmas lights sets you at ease, and brings about a true feeling of happiness in an otherwise tumultuous world."

FOG

Today was foggy!!
I dislike change except when it comes to the weather. And living in the desert is not really conducive to change. The weather is hot and hotter with a little rain few and far between. So it was delightful to wake up today to FOG!!

BUT BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!!

In the winter of 1955, we moved to Coffman, Texas for three months where Dad worked his truck on a road-building job. He worked with two of his friends and we shared a two-story house with their families. Bill & Katie Manasco and Lavern & Barb Nichols shared the 1st floor and we had the 2nd floor to ourselves. One day it snowed and Katie and Mom decided to pose in their bathing suits with Mr. Snowman. Mom was 26 when this photo was taken. It has always been a favorite of mine because it shows Mom's fun, happy, and playful personality!
